Diablo Immortal: Loot Box Laws Impairs Launch on Certain Countries

Blizzard says continuing to download in these territories might get players banned..

A new report states that Activision Blizzard will not be able to launch Diablo Immortal in two territories due to the Loot Box laws.

Dutch media outlet Tweakers recently spoke with an Activision Blizzard Benelux communications manager to confirm that the game will not release in the Netherlands and Belgium on June 2, 2022. The reason was due to “the current operating conditions in these countries”.

Tweakers reported that the players from both territories have been able to pre-register to the game before the launch on mobile and PC. After a while though as the launch draws near, the pre-registration option was suddenly gone. They were baffled as to why this happened all of a sudden and now we know the reason.

On a subreddit for Diablo Immortal, a statement from a Blizzard employee was shared. It confirmed the same thing: the two countries are not able to download the game due to the restrictions.

“The Diablo Immortal loot boxes in the game are against the law in your country, so unless the gambling restrictions change, the game will not be released in the Netherlands and Belgium,” said the employee. “If you manage to run the game I cannot guarantee that you will not be banned for it.”

Way back in 2018, Blizzard Entertainment stopped the sales of loot boxes in Belgium. The Belgian Gaming Commission ruled that loot boxes have breached several gambling laws in the country.

Diablo Immortal will still continue to launch on June 2, 2022 on PC and mobile devices except Belgium and Netherlands.
