The Phasmophobia Music Box is a Cursed Possession introduced in game’s 0.5.0 update back in December 10, 2021. One of the six new Cursed Items introduced to the game, the Music Box is a helpful instrument in gathering information about the ghost haunting the specified location however it is also risky to use.
You have a one in six chances of a Music Box spawning in the map. It can be difficult to find it especially in larger maps such as the Prison as the Music Box can blend in the background well enough. In this guide, we’ll teach you where to find the Music Box in every map and how to effectively use it in Phasmophobia.
All Phasmophobia Music Box Spawn Locations
Music Boxes, like all Cursed Possessions, are limited to one per mission. No two Cursed Possessions of the same or different type can exist in the same contract. There are specified spawn locations for the Music Box in every map. So if you aren’t familiar as to where to find the Music Box in Phasmophobia, you could be looking for it for a long while.
Here are all the spawn locations for the Music Box in each map so you don’t have to struggle with looking it. Credit goes to Reddit user, Fantismal, for their post detailing where to find all the Cursed Possessions.
Asylum
The Music Box spawns behind the desk inside the lobby. It’s just when you first enter the map. Head inside and check the reception table to the Music Box.
Bleasdale Farmhouse
The Music Box spawns in the living room on the first floor. When you enter the house through the front door, you enter the foyer. The room beyond that is the living room. Just keep walking forward, and head towards the right side of the room.
Brownstone Highschool
The Music Box can be found shortly after entering the Brownstone Highschool front entrance. Go to the right of the lobby and you’ll find the Music Box before you hit the hallways.
Edgefield Street House
The Music Box spawns in the living room. Once you enter the house, go to the room on your left and then face right. The Music Box can be found on the table.
Grafton Farmhouse
The Music Box spawns in the foyer room. You can find it just after you enter the house through the front door. Look near the fuel tanks.
Maple Lodge Campsite
The Music Box spawns just outside the cabin entrance. Just after climbing the stairs, head past the door instead of entering the cabin. You can find the Music Box in front of the right window.

Willow Street House
The Music Box spawns in the living room. Just when you enter the house, look to the left. The Music Box is on top of the cabinet.
How to Use the Music Box in Phasmophobia?
Once you’ve picked up the Music Box you can activate it to start playing music that will attract the ghost to your location. Listen closely and you’ll start to hear the ghost singing along to the tune. Don’t let the ghost touch the Music Box however, as this will break the Cursed Possession and will start a Cursed Hunt which lasts longer than a normal ghost hunt.
Music Box | |
Max Number Per Map | 1 |
Max Uses | 1 |
Sanity Drain | -75% Sanity to those who listen to the full song while holding the Music Box |
The primary function of the Music Box in Phasmophobia is to help locate the Ghost Room. Start playing the Music Box and then follow the hymn of the ghost. The Music Box can be carried with you while it’s playing or set down to any surface before it plays. The Music Box can only be used one time and will permanently close after you’re done, so be smart with how you use it.
The Music Box’s secondary function is to help you take photos of the ghost. As the music is playing, the ghost will manifest in its physical form when its 5 meters near the Music Box. This will let you capture a photo of the ghost, however you should take care not to let it touch the Music Box as it will stroll towards it.
You should be warned that when the Music Box is playing you lose Sanity the nearer you are to it. A player who hears the full song while the Music Box is in their hand loses 75% of their Sanity which may cause a normal ghost hunt after.
The Music Box can be the most difficult to utilize out of all the Cursed Possessions in the game. You have to be careful how you use it. Here are some things you should do when you’re playing the Music Box:
- Slippery Fingers: do not drop the Music Box while playing music. This will anger the ghost and initiate the Ghost Hunt.
- Musical Tag: give the Music Box to someone who knows not to drop it when the Music starts playing. Once you’ve identified the Ghost Room, have a camera in hand and let your friend lure the ghost away while taking photos of it. Pack some Sanity Pills because this drains 75% of your friend’s Sanity.
- Musical Distancing: set the Music Box in a place you’re sure the ghost is far away from before playing the music. Follow the sound to find out the Ghost Room.
- Stay Away: the Music Box drains 75% of your Sanity. It’s best to stay away from it all together.
Keep in mind that a crucifix will not prevent a Cursed Hunt. When you break the Music Box or if a ghost touches it, the hunt begins regardless of a crucifix’s proximity.
Make sure to take photos of the Music Box with your camera as it will reward you with money after you finish the contract.
That’s all the spawn locations of the Music Box as well as how to use it. We’ve confirmed these locations for ourselves. During the time of this writing, Kinetic Games has yet to update Phasmophobia to rearrange the location of the Music Box so you can find it at the specified locations above.
