Destiny 2 Strange Key – Where to Get and How to Use

The Destiny 2 Strange Key is a “key” item in one of the quests given by Xur in the game. There is little info given about this Strange Key on how to use it and what it unlocks, but it surely is a crucial step for getting a well-known sidearm.

In this guide, we will be talking about the Strange Key in Destiny 2, what its significance is, and how to use it.

What is the Destiny 2 Strange Key for?

The Destiny 2 Strange Key appears as one of the objectives in the Magnum Opus quest given by Xur. The quest requires the player to use the Strange Key somewhere as this particular key opens a path that leads to a cryo pod that holds an Anomalous Object.

Destiny 2 - Xur will have the quest available as soon as you meet him.

Where to get a Strange Key in Destiny 2?

The Strange Key will only appear if the Magnum Opus quest is accepted from Xur, and if the Strange Favor or the player’s reputation with Xur has reached level 4. Once those are met, Xur will sell the Strange Key for free.

How to use the Strange Key in Destiny 2

First off, we will have to go through the Magnum Opus quest in order to acquire and use the Strange Key. The Magnum Opus quest can be accepted from Xur at Xur’s Treasure Hoard; simply scroll to the next page of his dashboard and you will see the quest. Then, simply follow these steps to complete the Magnum Opus quest:

Destiny 2 Magnum Opus Quest Guide

    1. Collect 7 Strange Coins by doing Dares of Eternity runs. It is recommended to pick up bounties before doing a run to help with the next steps.
    2. Complete 3 Starhorse Bounties. Only one bounty can be picked up at a time. These bounties can be picked up from Starhorse and should also be completed in a single run, or else the progress will reset. It’s best to just pick a Starhorse bounty that you can easily do.
    3. Reach Strange Favor rank 4. If you have been doing Xur’s bounties, then you should be at least at rank4. If not, continue doing the bounties.
    4. Pick up the Strange Key from Xur. He sells it to you for free, provided that you’ve reached the right rank.
    5. Head to the purple smoke in Xur’s Dominion and stand in it. You’ll then be teleported to the Valley.
    6. Head to the cluster of rocks to the right side of the Valley. You should find a rock with a small rectangular block on top of it that looks out of place.
    7. Interact with the block to use the Strange Key. It can get tricky to do so, but try to jump and hover, then interact with the block while hovering.
    8. Follow the marker to the tower. At the base of the tower, there is a crevice that you can enter.
    9. Follow the bronze balls inside the cave. You will have to jump gaps and ledges while following them, and you’ll eventually reach a wall with platforms on it. Use the platforms to climb higher, but keep in mind that these platforms shift in and out, so try to stay on beat to avoid falling.
    10. Investigate the Cryo Pod. You’ll have to jump over a gap to reach another crevice at the top of the wall. You’ll then find a Cryo Pod that holds an Anomalous Object.
    11. Bring the Anomalous Object to Banshee-44. After a few dialogues, you will be rewarded with the Forerunner Exotic Firearm.

    Destiny 2 Forerunner Exotic Firearm

The Forerunner Exotic Firearm is a sidearm that was made as a homage to the M6D Magnum Sidearm from the Halo series. Although its design has been changed slightly to fit in with Destiny’s theme, it still retains some of its signature features. Some of the dialogues from Banshee-44 about its lore, and even its The Rock perk, are references to the popular weapon from Halo.
