Can You Customize Your Cat in Stray?

This cat is ready to paint Midtown red

Look, I can see why this topic needs to be brought. The cat looks amazing and who wouldn’t want to customize the cat’s looks and dress it up. It’s too darn adorable. Now, we here have asked around and this is everything you need to know when it comes to the question of customization in Stray.

Does Stray Have Customization?

Short answer: No. The long answer comes from the developers themselves. In a recent tweet before the game’s release, they have comfirmed that the game is: “it’s the adventure of this particular cat, so no customization.”

If it’s any consolation, Annapurna Interactive have pet accessory merch and other collabs in the works. They have confirmed as much on Twitter. So, you may not be able to customize your video game cat, it won’t be able to stop from customizing your real-life pet in the near future.

What can you actually change in Stray?

I can sympatize with players hoping that you are able to make changes to your cat. But it is what it is. So, what can you change in the game?

For one thing, you can collect badges by helping the Companions with their requests. You can also find them by exploring the town. These badges are then shown on the coat as badges of recognition for all your achievements in the game. So there’s that.

You can also help B-12 recover all of its memories. And as a reward for all your patience and hard work, you will be rewarded with a shiny futuristic looking coat.

As much as I would have liked to have a bandana for the cat after getting the ‘Sneakitty’ trophy and being able to fully become with the box, I think the cat is fine as is. (Maybe a tiny top hat would be more sutble… No, no, no.) The developers have the final say and we should respect their wishes.
