Shields in God of War: Ragnarok play an essential role during your playthrough. They possess skills that not only help boost Kratos’ defense but also have offensive capabilities that players will find very advantageous to their arsenal. God of War Ragnarok All Shields List
There are currently 5 shields you can obtain in-game, which are as follows:
Dauntless Shield
A shield fit for high-risk and high-reward parries. It possesses a skill called Shield Bash that can high stun enemies and parry to deal stun and empowers the shield when it is used for another Shield Bash.
- How to Get – This shield is purchasable from the Huldra Brother’s (blacksmith) shop
- All Dauntless Shield Upgrades:
- Level 1 -> Defense: 10
- Level 2 -> Defense: 25
- Level 3 -> Defense: 40 & Cooldown: 8
- Level 4 -> Defense: 55 & Cooldown: 11
- Level 5 -> Defense: 70 & Cooldown: 14
- Level 6 -> Defense: 85 & Cooldown: 17
- Level 7 -> Defense: 100 & Cooldown: 20
- Level 8 -> Defense: 115 & Cooldown: 23
- Level 9 -> Defense: 130 & Cooldown: 26
Stone Wall Shield
A shield fit for absorbing attacks and striking back. This shield gives Kratos a powerful skill known as Shield Slam that launches enemies when fully charged and blocks attacks to absorb the hit and build up the charge. It can also block Guard Break attacks.
- How to Get – This shield is purchasable from the Huldra Brother’s (blacksmith) shop

- Level 1 -> Defense: 10
- Level 2 -> Defense: 25
- Level 3 -> Defense: 40 & Vitality: 8
- Level 4 -> Defense: 55 & Vitality: 11

Shatter Star Shield
A shield fit for staying mobile and charging up. This shield gives Kratos the ability to perform Shield Punch that blows enemies backward and increases in power when it is fully charged.
- How to Get – This shield is purchasable from the Huldra Brother’s (blacksmith) shop
- All Shatter Star Shield Upgrades:
- Level 3 -> Defense: 40 & Runic: 8
- Level 4 -> Defense: 55 & Runic: 11
- Level 5 -> Defense: 70 & Runic: 14
- Level 6 -> Defense: 85 & Runic: 17
- Level 7 -> Defense: 100 & Runic: 20
- Level 8 -> Defense: 115 & Runic: 23
- Level 9 -> Defense: 130 & Runic: 26
Guardian Shield
A shield fit for a balance of defensive options. This shield can break enemies’ guards using Shield Check and parry them to do special counterattacks.
- How to Get – In order to get this shield, it will be given to Kratos at the beginning of the game during the Surviving Fumbulwinter but it will be listed as Broken Guardian Shield but later on, after speaking to Brok at the start of The World Of Fate, it will be fixed.
- All Guardian Shield Upgrades:
- Level 4 -> Defense: 55
- Level 5 -> Defense: 70
- Level 6 -> Defense: 85
- Level 7 -> Defense: 100
- Level 8 -> Defense: 115
- Level 9 -> Defense: 130
Onslaught Shield
A shield fit for safely advancing on enemies. This legendary shield can rush toward enemies while blocking incoming attacks using Shield Rush. Using this skill from a greater distance will launch enemies on impact.
- How to Get – This shield is unique and can be unlocked through 2 methods. The first is in a legendary chest that can be found immediately after the Garm boss fight in Helheim. The second is in the blacksmith shop and can be bought or 7500 Hacksilver.
- All Onslaught Shield Upgrades:
- Level 6 -> Defense: 85 & Runic: 17
- Level 7 -> Defense: 100 & Runic: 20
- Level 8 -> Defense: 115 & Runic: 23
- Level 9 -> Defense: 130 & Runic: 26
